6 signs a website visitor is ready to buy (and what to say to them)

All articles

Only a small share of website visitors ever start a chat on their own. The rest decide quietly, and many leave with a question nobody answered. The good news: buyers leave clues. When you can see who is on your website right now, you can notice those clues and say hello at the right moment.

1. They keep coming back to pricing

A second or third look at your pricing page is one of the strongest signs of intent. They’re comparing plans, checking a detail, or building the case for a purchase. Try: “Hi! Happy to help you pick the right plan. What’s most important for your team?”

2. It’s their third visit this week

Returning visitors are researching. They already know what you do, so skip the introduction and offer something useful, like a quick answer, a demo or a case study.

3. They’ve read five or more pages

Deep browsing means real interest. Look at the path they took: features, then integrations, then pricing tells a very different story from one blog post after another.

4. They’re lingering on checkout or a contact form

A visitor who has spent two minutes on checkout without finishing is often stuck on a question about shipping, fees or setup. A short, specific message like “Any questions about delivery times?” can save the sale.

5. They hit an error

Nothing kills a purchase like a broken button. If a visitor runs into a JavaScript error, reach out before they give up: “Sorry about that! Can I help you finish your order?”

6. They came from a high-intent campaign

Visitors from a search for “alternative to [competitor]” or from a pricing-focused ad arrive ready to evaluate. Knowing the source lets you tailor your first message.

How to start the conversation

  • Lead with help, not a pitch. Ask one simple question.
  • Mention what you can see only when it helps, such as the plan they’re looking at.
  • Keep it short. One or two lines is plenty.
  • Don’t chase. If they don’t reply, let them browse in peace.

TalkRobin’s smart alerts (on Pro and above) flag hot leads and visitors who hit errors automatically, so you can spend your time on conversations instead of watching a screen.
